Abstract

The research is based on the need to understand the influence of the reading corner on the This reasearch is base on the need to understand the influence of the reading corner on the development of reading interest in higher basic education students with the purpose of determining how the reading corner can créate an appropriate learning environment to enhance reading interest in upper basic, Sara Serrano de Maridueña school, Huaquillas, 2023-2024. The methodology used covers a descriptive, explanatory and propositional approach, bibliographic and field type with a qualitative and quantitative approach. The results obtained reveal that, in terms of reading interest, the students present a médium level while the reading motivation on the part of the teachers is high. However, interest in reading is perceived as mainly low, despite moderate reading fluency, Although the learning environment is considered highly classroom-based, teachers´ creation of motivating environments varies. The interview with teachers highlights the importance they give to reading, although they face challengues in having only one space, the classroom, to promote it. The obvation guide reveals that the majority of students have a low reading interest, with occasional motivation, while reading fluency is at a médium level. The learning environment, mostly classroom and occasionally virtual, reflects the need to implement more varied and creative environments. In conclusión, the importance of implementing a reading corner is highlighted, identified as beneficial to discover the usefulness of reading and awaken curiosity, and the need to be more innovative to improve reading interest in upper elementary students is highlighted.
