Abstract

The oppositional defiant disorder (TND) is defined as those behavioral alterations, which generate affectations in the different environments where the individual develops on a daily basis. People with this disorder are characterized by performing repetitive actions based on negative attitudes such as tantrums, perjury and continuous states of anger. The TND has three levels "mild, moderate and severe" which can be present at early ages, having a great impact at family, social and academic levels. People who tend to present this disorder develop a notorious deficit in their social skills. Therefore, the present research posed the following scientific problem: What are the parenting styles and social skills present in a child with oppositional defiant disorder? In order to answer the question, the following general objective was presented: to establish the parenting styles and social skills present in a child with oppositional defiant disorder. Regarding the methodology used, a descriptive type of research was assumed, which was based on the qualitative approach, using various instruments related to the TND, such as the semi structured interview for parents, the application of the Esperi questionnaire and finally an observation guide to the child. The results obtained in this research allowed contrasting the different characteristics that manifest this disorder, it was determined that parents develop a permissive parenting style that opens the way for the child to develop aggressive and manipulative behaviors with their peers, and negative habits of coexistence.
