Diseño de una ruta para el desarrollo sostenible: caso de estudio Machala-Tahuín.

Abstract

The document presents the design of a tourist route between Machala and Tahuín, with the aim of promoting sustainable tourism and local economic development. The importance of tourist routes in the preservation of cultural and natural heritage is highlighted, as well as their impact on the revitalization of the economy through responsible tourism. The study is justified by the need to promote the Tahuín Dam as a tourist attraction, taking advantage of its natural and cultural wealth. In addition, the benefit that this will represent for the community of Arenillas is considered, promoting the commercialization of local products and generating employment. Problems such as the lack of tourist infrastructure, poor promotion and absence of sustainable strategies are identified. Through the SWOT analysis, strengths such as biodiversity and opportunities such as the growth of ecological tourism are evaluated, while weaknesses include the lack of signage and tourist training. The methodological proposal of the study combines quantitative and qualitative approaches, using surveys and interviews with tourists, local authorities and tourism companies. The results reveal a high interest in activities such as hiking, boating and kayaking, as well as a preference for organized tourist transportation. As part of the proposal, an itinerary is designed that begins in Machala, with activities at the Tahuín Dam, tours along nature trails, interaction with the local community and tasting of traditional cuisine. The need to implement sustainable practices, tourism training and improve infrastructure to guarantee an enriching experience for visitors is emphasized. The document concludes by highlighting the importance of collaboration between local governments, tourism companies and the community, to consolidate the Machala-Tahuín route as a benchmark for sustainable tourism in the province of El Oro.
