In this same sense, it should be noted that the importance of the social worker at the Divina Misericordia Shelter allows for comprehensive attention to the residents, addressing their emotional, social and economic needs. This contributes to improve their quality of life and promote their reintegration into society, which is why the main objective of this study is to highlight the importance of the intervention of the Social Worker in the homeless shelter Divina Misericordia in the city of Machala, 2023. Therefore, it should be stated that social workers are those professionals who fulfill a fundamental role, which focuses on identifying and assessing the needs of individuals who had their life on the street, this strengthens the effective allocation of resources and services to meet those needs in a personalized way, managing and mitigating crises in order to maintain a safe and stable environment in the shelter. Moreover, it should be emphasized that this study was conducted through a qualitative approach, which allowed social workers to act as a liaison between residents, on-site staff, and community support programs. This ensures that those housed in the shelter have access to medical, educational, welfare and other essential resources. Through the semi-structured interview and the non-participatory observation guide, relevant information was obtained from the authorities, workers and volunteers of the institution, who stated that they knew the role of the social worker and highlighted its importance in institutions dedicated to the special protection of vulnerable people who were violated and abused at different stages of their lives and who were taken in by the institution, However, the work does not end, a professional is needed to coordinate in a timely manner, with methods, techniques and instruments through the formation of support networks for the user, to lead to social reintegration, depending on the respective social report that guarantees that the preservation of rights and care necessary to reinsert back into society is being fulfilled. In this same sense, it should be stated that the results obtained show that the objective of the research was fulfilled, since it demonstrated the inconveniences and needs that the shelter is going through, due to the lack of a professional to establish, manage and channel the pertinent help, through a professional intervention, in addition the product was socialized with which the necessary steps would be initiated for the crystallization of the project of creation of the area of Social Work according to the arguments exposed in the research. Therefore, it can be concluded that the area of social work in the shelter Divina Misericordia in Machala, in 2023, stands as an essential component to achieve the objectives of the institution. Its focus on the integral wellbeing of the residents, identification of needs, crisis intervention, facilitation of access to resources and empowerment, contributes significantly to the successful functioning of the shelter and the wellbeing of the community it serves.
