Abstract

The following work, titled “Sculpture as an artistic means to understand the problems of global warming,” shows us through research the causes and consequences of global warming, which throughout these years has been increasing, showing us an increase of 2 °C from the year 2002 to the year 2023, the government has not come forward to provide solutions, causing this problem to escalate. Due to the population's lack of knowledge about this issue, no solutions have been seen from 2015 to 2023, becoming a problem that directly affects both nature and humans. One of the causes of the increase in global warming is the greenhouse effect since, due to the felling of trees, air purification is reduced, causing toxic gases to deteriorate the ozone layer, thus allowing the sun's rays to directly impact the environment. earth, which is why modernist sculpture has been studied as an artistic object to make a proposal that shows a visual representation of global warming. Through the artistic object, the aim is to present the consequences of global warming, aiming to awaken in the viewer various feelings that lead to reflection on excessive pollution, the felling of trees and the destruction of the marine ecosystem. For re-election on this issue, strategies are sought to try to reduce the increase in global warming. Several artists such as Richard Serra, Robert Smithson and Mel Bochner have joined this cause. Creating works such as Tuileries by Richard Serra and Obalisque through modernist sculpture, thus making this sculptural movement one of the most used today by artists since it allows freedom when devising and creating different and unique sculptural pieces that are very common to find in buildings or busy squares addressing topics with different concepts not always linked to a social problem.
