La obra de arte como momento crítico en los espacios urbanos de Machala, una propuesta desde la intervención artística

Abstract

Throughout history, art has taken a series of artistic dynamics marked by its own referents in its different concepts, contexts and conventional and traditional forms; this artistic evolution has always been on a par with the different social and technological facts that have changed history and that keep art in constant evolution. The study of artistic interventions in public space seeks to understand the new ways in which art contributes to social construction. So we ask ourselves the following questions: What form of social pact do these manifestations propose, what aspect of social order do they fit into, and would disorder be a form of practice? The public space is also a space where we acquire information and knowledge about the present and about life itself, it is a space of exchange and continuous movement. The following are some artistic interventions that certainly inhabit at the same time diverse qualifications. These forms include activism, ephemeral art, contemporary art and public art. Yes, the term public art encompasses more elements than most people imagine, many of these works work against the progressive depoliticization of public space and fight against its permanent commercialization and privatization. Nowadays we have lived through a series of global transformations that have shown considerable changes in the way of living of human beings, which from the point of view of art suffers another impact due to these consequences or circumstances. Art takes a leading role in questioning the events that society is currently experiencing. Faced with this, the respective artistic proposal through the intervention in the streets of Machala Canton through an investigation, clearly raises a social problem that has been generating concern and discontent in the inhabitants of this town. These events that are so evident in the destruction of natural ornamentations and the implementation of artificial ones show a clear example that "urban regeneration" causes the loss of these few natural spaces in the city. While we know that not only these natural resources have been destroyed, we can also mention that icons very representative of the culture and tradition of Machala have been removed, which places us at a point where through this research we can inquire about the concern that not only the residents but also the passers-by who daily circulate through the central streets of Machala have. Hence it is important to address through art interventions as part of understanding, knowing and knowing about what is currently happening in Machala, these forms of art transcend indispensable for us to reflect on this problem that harms the flora and encloses us more to a globalized culture. Undoubtedly, this research results in this artistic proposal in order to make a more in-depth study on this kind of problem that has its positive and negative comments, but that considerably damage the natural environment of the city. It is also considered that it is important to analyze and question this kind of actions that are carried out for the execution of the so-called "urban regeneration" violating these spaces without prior consultation with the population.
