Abstract

The present investigation called "Contemporary Digital Portraits of Indigent Older Adults of the Machala Canton" will understand from the examination of the historical background of indigence through the interpretation of artistic photography. Throughout history, it has been relevant in moments of tension and in highly uncontrolled situations, that is why the transmission of ideas, thoughts or facts from works that take the title of "art" occurs. Art is often used to raise awareness of social phenomena that sometimes suffer invisibility from so everyday, especially in large cities in a way that, at present in the middle of the pandemic, the gaze is focused on other situations leaving aside older adults with a state of poverty or indigence. Art photography is an interpretive representation of reality, in the sense of being something cut out by the perception of the gaze. For this, the issue of homelessness will be addressed in a mixture with the art of digital surrealist photography as an artistic resource; Likewise, surrealism is based on the irrational and unconscious as a way to transfigure life, society, art. The publicly released image is an open window through which we can see places and people that we would not know otherwise. The images make us imagine what it would be like to be in a certain environment experiencing experiences. For these reasons, the present research has a critical-reflective approach in which artistic photography will be the means of expression as a tool that has been used to make known the emotional states that human beings constantly pass through the pandemic and how this directly affects the indigent and much more the elderly, demonstrating a different reality that has been occurring in the Machala canton. The purpose of the research is to reach the viewer to raise awareness and generate criticism about what has been generated over time about the abundance of indigent older adults. In chapters I and II, the investigative part will be evidenced, covering the topic of the history of poverty and art, the presentation of artists who have manifested themselves through painting and photography with messages of awareness, of foreign, national and national artists. local topics on the various topics that have been touched on throughout the research and as the final part of Chapter III has been what is the process of making the digital editions of the photographs, with surreal retouching until the presentation is already completed. Finally, in Chapter IV, it is to make known the experiences of people in a state of poverty through photographic editing in order to generate an impact on the viewer through the use of the Facebook platform by making a post for public viewing and thus allowing the viewer interacting with the works with the objective that we have set ourselves from the beginning of the research.
