Abstract

Self-Esteem and Family Environment of a Child with Severe Physical Disability.The present research focuses on physical disability, analyzing it through the variables of self-esteem and family environment. It begins with the following scientific question: ¿How does the family environment influence the self-esteem of a child with severe physical disability? Consequently, the general objective is to analyze the influence of the family environment on the self-esteem of a child with a severe physical disability. The theoretical framework is based on Erik Erikson’s psychosocial development theory, which posits that personal growth depends on how individuals address the challenges presented at each developmental stage.To achieve the research objectives, the following instruments were used: an observation guide and the A-EP self-esteem test, which provided information regarding the child’s self-esteem in both school and family settings. Additionally, an interview was conducted to gather qualitative data on the dynamics of the family environment, and the FF-SIL questionnaire was employed to assess overall family dynamics. This study emphasizes the importance of fostering a positive family relationship by offering quality time and support so that children with severe physical disabilities can develop high self-esteem.
