Evaluación de la respuesta sísmica para la rehabilitación estructural del edificio bloque 4 del campus Machala

Abstract

The present research project is focused on "The evaluation of the seismic response for the structural rehabilitation of the building block 4 of the Machala campus", in order to determine the adequate structural intervention to meet performance levels in case of a seismic event. The building is composed of flat slabs, band beams and columns, and the reinforced concrete frames are filled with unreinforced block masonry. A field survey and analysis of the building was carried out to define its characteristics and determine the behavior of the structure. ASCE 41-17 (Seismic Evaluation and Retrofit of Existing Buildings) standard was used to analyze the elements and a nonlinear static or dynamic analysis will be performed to allow the response of the structural system. Since the masonry interacts in the resistant system of the structure, a representation of the diagonal point method was used for the analysis to simulate its behavior and obtain the global and local capacity of the system in each direction of analysis. Finally, the best alternative for the intervention is proposed within the available data, considering technical and functional aspects, in order to improve the performance of the structure and minimize the intervention. This project not only seeks to propose the most adequate strengthening alternative for the building under study, but also to serve as a reference guide for the intervention of buildings with similar characteristics, minimizing their seismic vulnerability and avoiding their possible demolition
