Manejo integral de la lesión vertebro medular traumática

Abstract

Introduction: Spinal cord injury is a very common clinical entity whose main cause is traffic accidents or falls, the proper management of these patients is essential, considering the initial stabilization, immobilization and treatment. Objective: To determine the initial management regarding the diagnosis and treatment of those patients who have suffered a spinal cord injury caused by trauma with a broad approach applicable to daily medical practice. Methodology: Descriptive, analytical and retrospective study, based on the search for updated information in articles of high impact and scientific relevance in electronic databases including: Medscape, Cochrane, PubMed Researchgate, The New England Journal, Elsevier, Scielo, Scopus, the same ones that have been published within the last 5 years. Conclusion: The comprehensive management of those patients who have suffered spinal-vertebral trauma plays a fundamental role in the patient's prognosis. Because, if the patient is approached appropriately, starting from the clinical diagnosis to the treatment, the patient's quality of life can be preserved to a certain extent depending on the measures taken and the severity of the injury.
