Desempeño académico y atención en un niño con trastorno negativista desafiante

Abstract

Oppositional defiant disorder ODD is a condition that affects the behavior of individuals, manifesting symptoms of irritability, frustration, anger, disobedience and opposition towards authoritative figures. This is detrimental to their social environment, since they will have difficulty relating to others, demonstrating inappropriate behavior which also affects their emotional regulation, causing complications when interacting in familial, educational and social settings. For this reason, this research was carried out with a child with ODD, posing as a scientific problem: what influence does attention have on the academic performance of a child with oppositional defiant disorder? In relation to the aforementioned, the following general objective is presented: Analyze the influence that attention has on the academic performance of a child with oppositional defiant disorder. The research methodology applied in this study is qualitative, for this, instruments were used such as, observation guide, interview and the NEPSY II neuropsychological test specifically in the auditory attention test, which allowed collecting important information that demonstrates that attention does not directly affect the child's academic performance. However, it can interfere with their learning process. It should be noted that it is not a trigger that affects their grades. For this reason, adequate and constant support from family and teachers is crucial.
