Opciones de tratamiento en los pacientes portadores del prolapso rectal

Abstract

Introduction: Rectal prolapse is a rare disease in the medical environment, however, the great change that it causes in the standard of living of those who carry it and its complications makes it require rapid and timely treatment, there are several variants for its treatment. Objective: To update the information on the therapeutic options recently used in rectal prolapse, for a correct approach to it. Materials and methods: An extensive search was carried out, using PubMed scientific databases, academic search engines such as MedScape, and Google Scholar, a base of scientific articles from quartile 1 and 2, according to SCIMAGO data, using clinical practice guidelines; clinical trials, published in the last five years. Conclusion: The presentation of rectal prolapse in clinical practice requires a comprehensive evaluation of the patient, their medical history and clinical characteristics, which allow an adequate assessment and selection of the currently established therapeutic options. Surgical and non-surgical treatment are available in the medical literature, the selection of one of them will depend on the limits presented by both the patient and the method itself, as well as its success.
