Abstract
This article reviews the different scientific bibliographic sources that date on the trade balance and its impact on the economic growth of a country; in turn, it is accompanied by a quantitativedescriptive cross-sectional econometric methodology, which collects data from 1980 - 2017 of the different items that said variable (trade balance) presented in Ecuador, and its impact in terms of elasticity; having as results that the imports mainly influenced the growth that the exports.

Este artículo hace una revisión de las diferentes fuentes bibliográficas científicas que datan sobre la balanza comercial y su incidencia dentro del crecimiento económico de un país; a su vez, está acompañado de una metodología econométrica cuantitativa-descriptiva de corte transversal, que recoge datos desde 1980 - 2017 de los distintos rubros que presentó dicha variable (balanza comercial) en Ecuador, y su impacto en término de elasticidad; teniendo como resultados que las importaciones incidieron mayoritariamente al crecimiento que las exportaciones.
