Abstract

The fruit of the Mangifera indica L. is juicy of fleshy and sweet pulp considering it as an edible peel fruit, appealing to the population which is highly commercialized in the season from October to January, where small merchants stock up on the product without take into account their origin or sanitary control. For this reason, small merchants to lower costs prefer to purchase the product without any labeling which is cheaper, and this is where the small producer uses and sells their crops, as is the case with fruit from the Sector Las Juntas del Cantón Portovelo that is sold without control. Thus, this work aims to show the presence of heavy metals such as lead Pb, cadmium Cd, Mercury Hg, and arsenic As in the fruits of the Mangifer indica L. that develop in Las Juntas sector areas near the Amarillo River of Portovelo Canton. The Mangifer indica L. is cultivated by artisanal farmers who have no knowledge of Good Environmental Practices for the cultivation of fruit on leased land that according to the PORTOVELO TERRITORIAL PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT PLAN are soils for agricultural use, but do not take into account the activities that take place in their context, such as the companies of the Benefit Plants in which the processes are carried out: physical, chemical and metallurgical of the material to extract the gold.
