Abstract

Most structures in a marine environment show signs of deterioration resulting from the effects of tides. The present bibliographic research aims to describe the deterioration in port works caused by the tides. Studying the tides is of vital importance to know the behavior of the sea level at any moment, this being a necessity that gains importance in the maintenance, design and construction of port works to protect their existence and avoid catastrophes. The methodology applied for the description of the deterioration of port works was carried out by collecting information from scientific articles, magazines, theses, web pages, etc., where it was obtained as a result that the port works due to their location produce effects of, corrosion in port docks, corrosion of reinforcement in concrete, corrosion by chlorides in a marine environment and floods registered by high tide. These effects cause port works to wear out or deteriorate if they are not prevented in time.
