La pintura como elemento cuestionador de la brecha social de la mujer en el trabajo

Abstract

Through this academic research project in Plastic Arts entitled as “Painting as a questioning element of the social gap of women at work”, I have carried out an analysis of the gender differences in the workplace with respect to women, covering it from an artistic perspective and highlighting how art can be a powerful tool to raise awareness and challenge the gender inequality present in our contemporary times from various societies and cultures that preceded us. I have carried out explorations about the manifestations of the gap between work and art at a global level and at a national level in my country Ecuador, highlighting the structural barriers that women face at work and specifically women artists in this field. After examining the landmark work of national and international artists, exploring how art is used to combat gender prejudice and promote equality, as well as developing an artistic proposal to represent these issues through a vivid visual language serving as a driver of social transformation. The study also examines the evolution of the representation of women in art and how social changes influenced the perception and visibility of women artists. Analyzing the avant-garde movements within the fields of art such as artistic drawing, figurative, abstract and surrealist painting, which have contributed to the fight for gender equality, as well as the influence of feminist initiatives and groups in the contemporary art scene. The article also examines the mechanisms of social and hierarchical exclusion that have long kept women at a disadvantage in the arts, from the lack of professional training to the lack of exhibition opportunities and funding from the authorities in charge of managing, organizing, carrying out and regulating these events and jobs. This analysis allows us to understand how the structure of the art system privileges men and relegates women to a secondary position, affecting their self-confidence and perception of their own abilities that they have struggled to develop through years of study, training and preparation. In this way, limiting their development and recognition in the fields of art. Another fundamental aspect of this research is the exploration of the role of art as a means of expression and protest. By analyzing different works, we can see how artists used their work to highlight the difficulties and discrimination faced by women in the workplace. These works, in addition to expressing social reality, also evoke dialogue with viewers and aim to create changes in collective thinking. Ultimately, the artistic proposal presented in this research project aims to visually represent the fight for gender equality in the workplace. With its carefully considered composition and symbolism, the work aims not only to provoke deep reflection but also to promote concrete actions that contribute to social change and create a more inclusive and equitable environment for women in the world of art and work.
