Técnicas utilizadas en la reproducción del <i>macrobrachium americanum </i> en ambiente controlado

Abstract

The present work focused on the compilation of information on reproduction techniques of the freshwater crustacean Macrobrachium americanum (Bate, 1868), a species considered of great economic interest in our country, for having sizes of 260 mm and a weight greater than 500 g, considering it a potential for freshwater aquaculture, in these techniques the sexual maturity of the species is determined, which will include its total length that fluctuates between 140 to 180 mm to a minimum size of 85 mm; Another technique that should be taken into account is the female/male ratio, 2 females for every male or even 10 females for every 2 males, but always in greater proportion the females; it is also a management to perform daily good management practices, water changes, where foreign material that originate in the mesocosm is extracted; the physical/chemical parameters are an important part of a reproduction technique because if they are not in the optimal ranges that the reproducers need, they will interrupt the process. In order to apply the techniques under study, it is necessary to know the general characteristics of the species, its reproductive physiology, feeding and so on. In conclusion, it can be established that although there is a lack of studies focused on reproduction techniques of M. americanum, by means of the present work the reproduction of the species could be carried out by applying the techniques compiled in the present work.
