Tumores malignos de mama: una mirada desde la atención primaria de salud

Abstract

INTRODUCTION: Malignant breast tumors are a public health problem, since they constitute one of the main pathologies that cause mortality in the Americas; For this reason, it is important to know that timely detection and treatment will help achieve a speedy recovery of the patient who suffers from it. OBJECTIVE: To identify the main role of the primary health care professional in breast cancer care, to improve the quality of life and survival of patients. METHODOLOGY: An exhaustive search of scientific information was carried out in databases such as Pubmed, Scielo, Dialnet, Google Scholar, of articles published for 5 years. CONCLUSION: Among the roles played by the primary health care professional, there is the promotion of health and the prevention of disease; including the functions of monitoring the evolution of the disease in patients with breast cancer. It is necessary for the professional to be able to identify patients at higher risk of suffering from breast cancer at each medical consultation, taking a complete medical history, emphasizing the risk factors and implementing the breast exam. , for the detection of nodules that may be cancerous and correctly request a biopsy, depending on the characteristics of the nodule found.
