Abstract

Human cytomegalovirus (CMV) is the leading cause of congenital infection worldwide. It is a variation of the herpes virus which produces different types of conditions. Some clinical studies show that "60-90% of patients with CMV infection who are symptomatic at birth and 10-15% of asymptomatic patients develop neurological sequelae that can range from isolated sensorineural deafness to intellectual disability or motor deficits.
