Escultura como medio de homenaje al precursor del arte en Machala

Abstract

This research project makes a historical review of the importance of sculpture in the history of art, going from the general to the particular to study the origins of art in the town of Machala, and develop a sculpture as a proposal objective. as a tribute to the precursor of art in the local context of Machala. For a long time, art was tied to power groups, one of them was the church where artists were entrusted to make sculptures that serve to evangelize the populations. As time went by, art freed itself little by little, but this was not an easy task, it took several revolutions to achieve it. In the city of Machala, the architect Víctor Murriagui was the one who initiated the local artistic activity and instructed other generations to continue with the artistic production. The legacy of this character was by chance of life since on a visit to the city of Machala he fell in love with the woman who would be his wife and after that he found a job at the 9 de Octubre school, which is where through the department of culture begins its most prodigious activity, which is to teach dozens of young people who will be the future artists of the province. Given this fact of history that sows the foundations for what will be the arts in Machala and given the lack of importance of large art institutions that have not paid any tribute, this research arises that aims to pay tribute to one of the founders of the history of art in Machala. That is why the present proposal will be in the form of a bust-type sculpture, made with resin and fiberglass, using the lost mold technique. For the final finish, the imitation of patina with lacquer paint was ruled out, and it was decided to experiment with natural colors of the skin, but without reaching the realistic techniques of blurring or glazes. It is finished will allow to appreciate the natural details of the face and will facilitate the recognition of the portrait of this character. With this it is desired that the community understand the intrinsic value of an artistic product, not only in its decorative aspect, but in its historical background. Throughout history, art has shown the ability to solve various social problems and today, although the means have evolved, the end is the same. This proposal will be a grain of sand that contributes to the history of art in Machala, a fair tribute to Arch. Víctor Murriagui, who thanks to his effort and perseverance managed to plant the seed of art in our town. The investigation has been a quite versatile methodological process since acquiring information for its purpose had to be reviewed interviews, local media magazines, information on social networks and those who knew the character, information was practically collected, in this sense the document emphasizes the historical trajectory of the role of the arts in society and how it is manifested through painting or sculpture and thus be able to understand the purpose of this research.
