Abstract

The following research work in the arts called "The art of the meme as a social interstice", proposes to create a new way of seeing memes through the creation of artistic proposals, thus contributing to the conceptual expansion of what we understand by art. In its beginnings art was part of everyday life, it was implicit in all aspects, religion, economy, clothing, among others, that as time went by it evolved and adapted to new eras. Just as in ancient times, when man painted on walls, danced in ceremonies, or even used architectural techniques to make his home, nowadays art can be found in different ways, such as in advertising, fashion, video games, especially in social networks. Observed in this way, art is and has been a means of communication that is transformed over time, generating a reality that each time encloses new horizons and therefore concepts. The meme was born as a link between communication and the individual through the internet, a new means of communication that encompasses many ideas with a single image, which is constantly fundamental to facilitate coexistence and a way of expressing oneself in daily life. Thanks to the impact that the meme can generate, in its viralization and way of transmitting ideas quickly, we find a bridge with art. The meme uses different forms of communication such as video, songs, dance, video games, and, thanks to the technological era, the transmission of information has been enhanced through the internet and more specifically through social networks. Art evolves with society and in this century one of the most famous artistic expressions are the memes that have crept into our lives, opening a new criterion if we see them as art. The meme today not only has a satire purpose but its criteria and purpose have been evolving, emerging the possibility of finding out about social issues through them as if it were news. Thus becoming a channel through which we have the possibility of educating individuals. It describes the value and effect that certain memes have had in the present, and the impact they have had, thus generating a global thought that is transmitted from individual to individual as in any culture. Some works of art such as "one and three chairs" or "This is not a pipe" are related to the meme, in one way or another demonstrate the importance of the image together with the text complementing each other and generating a new idea, something very common in memes, which create situations or imaginary scenarios through form and letters. Even signs or specific languages. The works and memes serve as inspiration for this artistic initiative, in order to demonstrate how memes and art are related. In addition, the process that the work has had over time will be shown, such as the approximations or sketches that conclude with the final edition and conclusions.
