Movimiento indígena y el paro nacional 2019: percepción de los orenses sobre su participación e influencia en las elecciones 2021

Abstract

In 2019 at the beginning of October, Ecuador woke up with several changes in its reform to try to reduce the public debt that affects the entire country, which is why several groups, including the indigenous movement, took to the streets to express their discontent for the decrees imposed. Therefore, the objective of this case study focuses on analyzing the way in which the Orense population values ​​the participation of the indigenous movement in the October 2019 strike and what influence it could have in the elections of 2021, for this a mixed study of a quantitative and qualitative nature. In the quantitative part, a survey was conducted aimed at a group selected by random sampling, while in the qualitative part, interviews were conducted with two experts on the subject. With these methods, the following questions can be answered: How does the Orense population value the participation of the indigenous movement in the October 2019 strike and what influence may they have on the 2021 elections? What perception do people have about the candidacy of the Pachakutik movement for the 2021 elections? and Can the participation of the indigenous movement in the 2019 national strike influence the 2021 presidential elections? The results show that the Orense population values ​​positively the intervention of the indigenous movement in the 2019 national strike, but even with their participation they are not the possible winners of the 2021 elections
