Perspectiva teórica de la orientación sexual y del desarrollo transexual en la adolescencia.

Abstract

In this essay the difference between sex and gender is analyzed, It is understood that sexual orientation has no relationship with gender identity. Sexual orientation is understood as the ability of an individual to feel a deep sexual, sentimental and affective attraction towards other people, and, the gender identity of how the person lives and feels their gender internally, without this being linked to their biological sex. The incident factors of sexual orientation in the psychological, biological, social and public policies in Ecuador are analyzed. Socially the term sexual minorities is used to the set of sexual orientations and gender identities. Transsexualism is studied as a gender identity and an analysis is established regarding gender dysphoria in adolescents. The transsexual individual, more than having an incongruity between the felt gender and the biological sex, performs surgical and hormonal interventions to align his sex to his felt gender. Gender dysphoria is the discomfort generated by such incongruity, it does not refer a problem to gender identity. The transsexual person initiates a transexualizing process, social transition, suppression of puberty, hormonal therapy of gender reaffirmation, and sex reassignment surgery. The objective of this essay is to propose two intervention processes to guide adolescents, both in their discovery of their sexual orientation, and in their gender identity.
