Medidas arancelarias sobre las importaciones y su impacto en la balanza comercial ecuatoriana durante el período 2000 – 2018.

Abstract

In this research, the behavior of the trade balance of Ecuador is studied, focused on the impact of protectionist economic policies aimed at restricting imports, which were implemented based on the origin of the trade imbalance. That is why, this study focuses on determining the impact of the tariff measures applied on imports of the trade balance of Ecuador during the period 2000-2018. In this work a descriptive investigation with a mixed approach is used, using qualitative and quantitative methods through the use of existing statistical data in secondary sources, thus managing to analyze the economic reality of the country. The results of this research allow us to verify that the tariff measures imposed in the country in certain years initially benefit the economy, since they generate a reduction in imports, but it is also possible to show that these restrictions disadvantage the increase in exports, causing an imbalance in the trade balance. It is concluded that, despite the application of certain tariff measures in the country, the trade balance deficit has been persistent in recent years, considering that protectionist policy is not the most optimal alternative to balance the trade balance, so that Ecuador being a diverse country should concentrate on the diversification of its productive matrix.
