Resumen : | From a sociological perspective, divorce is constituted as a familiar and social phenomenon, judging by its serious consequences. The legal marital breakdown by marriage dissolution not only disintegrates the family, but develops a maelstrom negative emotions and feelings in its members, especially in children, which even puts projects of personal life. By becoming a common practice divorce takes on a social dimension by having to assume the cost of the dire derivations, which on the one hand are expressed in the insertion of the children of divorced parents into resentful social groups, misfits and pre-crime and, on the other hand, in the appearance and proliferation of new forms or types of family that are nourished by the restructuring of the traditional nuclear family. In Ecuador and particularly in the province of El Oro, official statistics would be showing that divorce is a growing social practice and that marriage is an institution in crisis, disuse or decline. These initial reflections aroused interest in conducting an investigative study focused on the city of Huaquillas, a human community with high divorce rates, with the intention of identifying the sociocultural factors underlying the divorce and leading to the restructuring of the traditional family.
