La importancia del fondo de ojo como tamizaje para la detección oportuna de la retinopatia del prematuro

Abstract

Introduction: The fundus is one of the most important screenings that allow a visualization of the back and inner side of the eyeball. Early and timely assessment in premature newborns is essential in order to avoid premature retinopathy. Both the examination of the eyes and early detection favors the detection of ocular alterations, contributing to the reduction of sequelae or permanent damage to the child's vision. Objective: To identify in a timely manner the warning signs of eye diseases during the stages of the newborn by means of the implementation of ocular screening. Methods: A retrospective descriptive study was carried out by selecting articles from sites based on scientific evidence such as: Community Eye Health Journal, Medigraphic, Elsevier, Scielo; in a period of time from 2015 to 2018; which comply with quality standards. Results: The importance of timely detection of premature retinopathy through screening of all newborns with risk factors was obtained through bibliographic reviews. Conclusion: Retinopathy of prematurity is one of the causes of potentially preventable blindness, the regulation of oxygen administration, weight gain after childbirth in order to significantly reduce its incidence and provide timely and effective treatment
