Resumen:
La presente investigación se la realizó en el Camal Municipal del Cantón Pasaje entre los meses de Agosto y Septiembre del 2005 inspeccionándose un total de 970 bovinos de los cuales 287 resultaron positivos y 683 negativos dando una prevalencia del 29,59%. La mayor prevalencia por edad se registra en los animales comprendidos entre los 2 a 5 años (14,95%), seguida por los mayores a 5 años (14,12%) y finalmente los animales menores a 2 años de edad (0,52%).La raza aparentemente más susceptible a la enfermedad es la mestiza (17,73%), seguida de la Holstein (4,95%), Criolla (3,20%), Pardo Suizo (2,27%), Brahman (1,34%) y finalmente la Jersey (0,10%). El 53,4% de los animales sacrificados fueron hembras (518), y el 46,6% machos (452), con una prevalencia del 14,95% (145) y 14,64% (142) respectivamente. Las provincias de El Oro y Azuay son las que presentan mayor prevalencia: 21,65% y 7,63% respectivamente. En cuanto a los cantones el de mayor prevalencia es Zaruma (7,53%), seguido de Chilla (7,11%), Pucará (6,81%), Pasaje (4,64%) y Atahualpa (1,44%).
