Revisión del monitoreo anestésico durante las etapas prequirúrgica, intraquirúrgica y postquirúrgica enfocada en felinos domésticos

Abstract

Anesthetic monitoring in felines is the indispensable complement in an adequate management of the patient in its different surgical stages, in order to anticipate, recognize and correct complications that may arise. Currently there is equipment that facilitates anesthetic monitoring in the operating room, however, the anesthesiologist or assistant must have extensive knowledge about the physiological parameters that must be taken into account in feline patients. For the reason that all species of animals cannot be treated in the same way, cats have physiological characteristics that make them different from canines. Therefore, the present work aims to describe the anesthetic monitoring process that is carried out in the different surgical stages applied in domestic felines, through the collection of bibliographic information, in order to maximize the safety of the anesthetic procedure and achieve the therapeutic goals. The anesthetic procedure to which the animals are subjected, have different stages that are: pre-surgical, surgical and post-surgical, where anesthetic drugs are supplied, according to the state that you want to bring to the patient to achieve the proposed objective. It is important to categorize the patient to take into account the possible risks that will arise. Recent studies indicate that there is a higher prevalence of complications in cats in contrast to canines. The most important systems to monitor are the cardiovascular, respiratory, along with body temperature, maintaining the objectives of anesthesia, to preserve the patient's life and homeostasis.
