Resumen : The social worker is a professional with great qualities and skills, fulfilling specific roles in various fields of action. This work focuses on the professional intervention within the health area of the General Hospital Teófilo Dávila, with the referral process of oncology patients. The qualitative research and the use of techniques and instruments such as observation and interview, reflect certain problems that retain the referral process, it should be noted that the referral is a process where the social worker through the RPIS Integral Public Health Network is responsible for seeking resources for patients who come to this public institution in order to access care services and free treatment of the MSP Ministry of Public Health. Firstly, cancer is considered a catastrophic disease. Therefore, immediate patient care is prioritised. It should be emphasised that the purchase of services is a highly complex process, therefore, the information obtained from the documentation must be legible, coherent and accurate. Through the systematisation of experiences obtained during this research study, we were able to confirm that oncology patients had a certain degree of lack of knowledge about the referral process. Secondly, the fear of being diagnosed with cancer is a strong emotional shock for both the patient and the joint family. The patient's health often deteriorates drastically due to the fear and the constant worry involved in struggling with this disease on a daily basis. Therefore, priority is given to the intervention of the social worker in the area of oncology, a professional who is highly qualified to respond to the needs of users who present difficulties, always acting professionally, providing quick answers with feasible solutions with the aim of transforming the social reality and coupling it to a better quality of life through the implementation of projects, strategies or intervention plans. Thirdly, in this case the action of the social worker is directed towards the misinformation of the oncology patients, therefore, the formulation of proposals that make the rapid referral process feasible is of vital importance. In short, the aim of the intervention plan is to provide specific information to oncology patients in order to obtain a successful referral in a short time. Through the actions of the intervention plan, the aim is to establish a rigorous control with the oncology patient or common family member, a rigorous control with regard to the necessary information so that there is a certain degree of understanding at the moment of carrying out all the pertinent procedures. Finally, the proposals of the intervention plan are a guarantee for a successful referral in a short time. Both the patient and the common family member will not be alone in this process, the social reality that each person fighting cancer lives is different, in this case we are all human beings and as social workers we have the obligation to provide our services in the best way. Becoming a light for those people who are going through difficult moments in life.
