The effects of the recent seismic activity, and its economic influence on the productive sectors of our country, have made it a necessity to consider the implementation of better performance objectives in the seismic design of our structures and their respective incorporation in the current regulations. All the structures are designed to preserve the life of its occupants during the earthquake, but not for the subsequent functionality of the same without intervening in structural reinforcement processes. The present work is developed with the purpose of evaluating the incorporation of criteria of continuous functionality and its effect on the behavior of the structures, which aim to guarantee the reduction of the seismic vulnerability of the buildings through the use of certain coefficients that have demonstrated better results in the seismic behavior of the structures. These criteria will be investigated during the theoretical phase that will determine its current state of relation with national and international regulations. After this a structural analysis is developed with the help of specialized software, in a structure with irregular characteristics, which brings us closer to the structural configurations commonly seen in our environment, and will allow us to make several models to finally examine the differences between the implementation of new design criteria and those currently used. The previous theoretical research showed that the criteria of continuous functionality, analyzed in this work, are not part of any national or international normative body, plus their incorporation into them is a current reason for analysis in certain countries, due to the positive behavior in the event of seismic events, who have already presented the buildings that implemented them. The incorporation of criteria of continuous functionality in the design process yielded results of high dimensions in the sections that resulted from the need to control the requests of said criteria (drift, factor R), and proposed the use of new alternatives to reduce the size of the elements. The reduction of the design spectrum was an alternative implemented to simulate the effect of the possible integration of a seismic isolation system, which reduces the need for large sections and that these criteria commonly present as beneficial for certain types of structures. The spectrum was modified with the help of an equivalent damping coefficient that generated new models with behaviors that had to be examined. Regarding the structural behavior of the proposed models, it could be verified that, due to the irregular configuration of the same, there are difficulties in the adequate distribution of the participative mass, generating torsional ranges in the structure outside the one commonly adopted by the designer's criterion. . This led once again to the implementation of new sections of structural elements to control this aspect. Finally, the effect of the seismic coefficient on a structure with a base isolation system was considered, as it had been proposed, for a period of the structure superior to that of the model considered with a fixed base. The requirements raised by ASCE 7-16 for the equivalent lateral force method were taken as a basis. By means of this the structures with the definitive sections were modeled considering the implementation of insulators of the LRB type, being those that comply with the percentage of damping adopted in the previous step. We can conclude that the implementation of criteria of continuous functionality in irregular structures, presents a difference in the dimensions of the sections that meet the requirements of NEC-15. The final sections of the model with seismic isolation system, reveals a lower weight in the structure added to the guarantees provided by the criteria of continuous functionality. The information analyzed in this paper will serve as a basis for future research based on these principles that could evaluate the performance of this type of structure and its economic influence through the use of complementary methods through this research line.es_ES
